We are now looking for an
Investment Manager, Financial Institutions
for a full-time, permanent position in Helsinki.
What you will be doing
Financial Institutions is one of Finnfund’s key sectors. The team invests in profitable and high impact commercial banks, microfinance institutions and insurance companies in the emerging markets promoting financial inclusion and access to financial services. At present, Finnfund’s investments and commitments in this sector total 225 million euros.
As an Investment Manager, you will be responsible for originating, developing, and executing new investment opportunities in the sector. Part of the role is to manage the existing investment portfolio with the team. You will work closely with clients, co-investors, financial advisors, and other stakeholders in the emerging markets’ investment community and play a key part in the development of the investment pipeline and portfolio. Internally, you will work together with your team and with colleagues from other functions such as environmental & social, development impact, and legal. As Finnfund acts as an advisor and sole source for investments of the OP Finnfund Global Impact Fund I, you will work with the Fund Managers of the Fund, too.
The key areas of responsibility include:
- Originating new investment opportunities and executing investments
- Leading the project team throughout the entire investment cycle, including pre-investment evaluation, preparation of investment committee materials, negotiations, structuring, and documentation
- Monitoring the development of financial institutions and services sector in Finnfund’s target countries
- Actively marketing Finnfund’s services and participating in relevant investment conferences, often as a speaker or panelist
- Building and maintaining relationships with investees, co-financiers, and other stakeholders
- Developing internal skills and capabilities in the financial institutions space
What you will bring along
An ideal candidate should have a master’s degree in a relevant field and a minimum of 5 years of applicable professional experience and insight into financial institutions from investment or corporate banking, management consultancy, PE or VC fund, or a relevant corporate function with financial institutions focus. Excellent writing and communication skills in English are a prerequisite, while fluency in other languages, demonstrated expertise in corporate finance and international investment experience are considered an asset.

We are looking for a candidate with strong communication and negotiation skills, who is social, results-oriented, and not afraid of challenges. The position requires some amount of travel in Finnfund’s target countries (once it is safe to do so after the COVID-19 pandemic).
