We are looking for a (Senior) Investment Manager, Energy and Infrastructure
Finnfund is a Finnish development financier and impact investor. We build a sustainable future and generate lasting impact by investing in businesses that solve global development challenges. We invest 200–250 million euros in 20–30 companies in developing countries each year. Our focus sectors include renewable energy, sustainable forestry, sustainable agriculture, financial institutions, and digital infrastructure and solutions. Today Finnfund’s investments and commitments total about 1.070 billion euros, half of them in Africa. The company has 90 employees.
We are now looking for a
(Senior) Investment Manager
into the Energy and Infrastructure team in Helsinki.
Renewable energy has long been one of Finnfund’s focus areas and our investments in energy represent 20% of Finnfund’s total portfolio. Finnfund invests in renewable energy generation, including solar, wind, hydro and bio power, as well as electric mobility, energy efficiency etc., in developing countries. Renewable energy investments are a key part of Finnfund’s carbon strategy.
We are looking for an experienced (Senior) Investment Manager with financial and energy sector background (education and/or professional experience) to join Finnfund. We offer a vantage point to impact investing with an exciting working environment.
What you will be doing
As a (Senior) Investment Manager, you will originate and execute new investments in renewable energy and/or energy efficiency sectors in developing countries. You will have overall responsibility for dedicated investee relationships and manage internal project teams of dedicated projects consisting of legal, analytical, impact and environmental and social experts. This position includes close collaboration with our existing and new investees as well as co-financiers.
The key areas of responsibility include:
• Originating new investment opportunities
• Investment structuring and execution of transactions
• Leading the project team throughout the investment process cycle, including pre-investment evaluation, preparation of investment committee materials, negotiations, structuring, and documentation
• Carry out and manage due diligence processes, which require travelling
• Portfolio performance monitoring (financial and operational); visiting portfolio companies regularly
• Monitor and contribute to internal and international discussion on energy transition and related themes
• Building and maintaining relationships with investees, co-financiers and other stakeholders
• Actively participating in the marketing of Finnfund and participating in relevant investment conferences, often as a speaker or panellist
Who we are looking for
An ideal candidate for this position has strong expertise (minimum of 5 years) in the field of energy investments, including evaluation of companies engaging in the energy sector. A successful candidate for this position is proactive, independent, comfortable in a changing environment and capable of managing complex projects. Ideally, you have executed financial transactions and have experience of different financial instruments. Experience from emerging markets and an existing, relevant network is considered an asset. We are looking for a committed employee who wants to do meaningful work in the field of impact investing.
Fluent English and good communication and negotiation skills are necessary to be successful in this position.
This position requires travelling.
