We are looking for a Trainee

Finnfund is a Finnish development financier and impact investor. We build a sustainable future and generate lasting impact by investing in businesses that solve global development challenges. We invest 200–250 million euros in 20–30 companies in developing countries each year. Our focus sectors include renewable energy, sustainable forestry, sustainable agriculture, financial institutions, and digital infrastructure and solutions. Today Finnfund’s investments and commitments total about 1.12 billion euros, half of them in Africa. The company has 100 employees.

We are now looking for a

Trainee

for a full-time, 6-month position in Helsinki.

As a Trainee, you will be based in the business development function of Finnfund’s Managing Director’s office and report to the Lead Economist. The Managing Director’s office covers Finnfund’s strategy development and follow up, a variety of business development functions as well as domestic and international relations. The team also works with country macroeconomic and political risk assessment for Finnfund’s investment decisions and portfolio monitoring.

What you will be doing

The traineeship gives you a vantage point to development finance and impact investing. You will support the business development function through background analysis and coordinate different processes within the organization, collecting and analysing data. You will also support the Managing Director by preparing presentations and background material and assist the team in international, EU and domestic stakeholder cooperation.

Who we are looking for

An ideal candidate for this position is a recent graduate with a university degree or a student close to graduation for example from fields of business, economics or social sciences. Experience and/or studies from developing economies as well as experience from business and/or finance are considered an asset. The position requires good written and oral communication skills both in Finnish and English.

We value excellent team working skills and are looking for an active approach, an open mind and willingness to take on a broad range of tasks. In today’s hybrid working environment, excellent IT skills are required. We are looking for a committed employee who wants to do meaningful work in the field of impact investing.
