Energy

Finnfund invests in wind, solar, hydro and bioenergy, as well as energy efficiency and storage.

The way that developing countries meet their rapidly growing energy demand will be crucial for global efforts to curb climate change. Besides the obvious effect on the climate, cleaner energy’s reliable and affordable supply has an important social and economic impact. This is why renewable energy is one of Finnfund’s priority sectors. At the end of 2023, our investments (portfolio, decisions and commitments) in this sector were worth 202 million euros, representing approximately 16% of our portfolio.

We continuously invest in wind, solar, hydro and bioenergy, as well as energy efficiency and storage. We do not finance coal energy. The size of our projects varies, and they use a wide range of technologies and financing solutions. We also help to build partnerships with international financiers and technology suppliers.

In 2021, our investees generated 5,300 GWh of energy.
