We are now looking for an

(Junior) Portfolio Manager, Special Operations

for a full-time permanent position In Helsinki.

The seniority of the position will be adapted according to your experience.

Special Operations is a part of Finnfund’s investment operations team tasked to manage Finnfund’s restructurings and underperforming investments.

(Junior) Portfolio Manager, Special Operations manages a dedicated portfolio of underperforming investments and reviews the performance of the entire investment portfolio. The (Junior) Portfolio Manager, Special Operations, has overall responsibility for managing some investee relationships assigned to Special Operations.

In this capacity, the person

  • manages Finnfund’s internal project team of dedicated projects consisting of legal, analytical, impact, and environmental and social resources,
  • monitors the financial and operational performance of named investee companies, and ensures portfolio management data at Finnfund is kept accurate,
  • conducts monitoring visits regularly,
  • contributes to business turnarounds together with all stakeholders,
  • prepares the annual reviews of investee companies and presents the reviews to the Portfolio Management Committee.

In addition, the person

  • reviews the investment portfolio in cooperation with portfolio managers with a view to identify early signs of underperformance,
  • contributes to developing Finnfund’s special operations and portfolio management processes and procedures.

Excellent performance in the position translates to economic value-add for Finnfund through an increase in the value of Finnfund’s investment whilst not compromising the ESG performance of the investee company or the development impact achieved.

Who we are looking for

You likely have a degree in Business, Engineering, or Law.

We hope you also have

  • a thorough understanding of financial statement analysis,
  • some knowledge of debt and / or equity financings,
  • a basic understanding of company capital structures,
  • some experience in restructurings and / or business turnarounds,
  • good intrapersonal skills and some experience in challenging negotiations,
  • project management experience,
  • good tolerance for confrontation,
  • ability to disagree in a convincing and constructive way.

Being a creative, solution-oriented team player who can think out-of-the-box helps you to perform well in the position.

A successful candidate must be fluent in English. Command of other languages is a benefit.

You are also expected to travel to Finnfund’s operating countries, sometimes at short notice.

In today’s hybrid working environment, excellent ICT skills are required.
